INCREMENT
👉 An increment is the financial benefit that is allowed to a Government servant after completion of one year continuous service.
👉  Illustration.
        Suppose an employee joins a Government Service on 27.06.2020 with pay of RS 35,400/- , Cell-01, Level-9.

         His next increment date will fall on 01.06.2021 [ in the 1st day of the month next year  irrespective his initial joining date which may be any date of that month (in the instant case 27)]
          On 01.06.2021, if the Govt. servant has performed continuous duty without any service break, he is allowed to draw pay in the next cell of that level. In the instant case, his increment would be sanctioned by raising his pay from RS 35,400/- , Cell-01, Level-9 to Rs 36,500/-, Cell-02, Level-09. The process will continue every year unless the employee is promoted or granted MACP or any financial upgradation is allowed due to any other reason.


👉An increment shall normally be drawn as a matter of course unless it is withheld (Rule 77 of OSC).
  
👉 Increment can be with held due to punishment by disciplinary authority in the following 2 ways
              (i) Without cumulative effect
              (ii) With cumulative effect.

👉 Withholding of increment can not take effects prior to the date of issue of order.
👉 The following period will count for increment.
               (i) Service on deputation
               (ii) Foreign Service
              (iii) Leave other than Extraordinary leave
              (iv) Extra ordinary leave taken on account of illness or for any reason beyond             Government servant's control or for prosecuting higher scientific and technical studies.
              (v) Joining time
